FINLAYSTONE ESTATE
REVIEW of ATTRACTION 2001

Finlaystone Estate is a relatively small country estate located approximately 15 minutes from Glasgow Airport and about the same distance from Greenock, if you are travelling from the other direction. The house is presently the home of the Chief of the Clan McMillan Its location is quite spectacular as it overlooks the Firth of Clyde and yet is only moments from the main motorway (M8). The estate comprises of gardens, woodland walks, the "Eye Opener" visitor centre and the main house.

The gardens and woodland walks are typical of the area and are well managed by the estate staff and friendly Rangers. The Rangers also arrange special events and guided walks, which are certainly worth participating in, the details of which are shown on the events noticeboard.

The main house which was originally built in the 14th Century, is very impressive. The house is open for groups (I am not sure of the minimum number) by appointment only and the guided tour is highly informative and based around a Victorian theme.

The final place to tour is the "Eye Opener" visitor centre. This centre contains a natural history display, a doll museum, a display of the history of the Clan MacMillan and a small display of Celtic art. No visit to any Estate in Scotland is complete without a visit to the tea room and Finlaystone is no exception in providing fine food for it's visitors.

Truely the tranquil calm in Scotlands industrial heartland.
